Skinny Bitch Curvy Chick (SBCC) Harvey Shirt

I truly appreciate the designers that offer petite patterns. Most designers just offer a lengthen/shorten line for adjusting patterns for height. That doesn't help much when you are 5' and can often use some length removed from above the bust. The proportions for someone my height just don't always fit perfectly into a pattern drafted for a 5' 7" model. So when I saw a tester call for SBCC, I signed right up. SBCC patterns are drafted for those under 5' 4" with 5' 1" being the base height.

SBCC normally does not perform pattern testing like many other indie designers and this was the first pattern where they did a tester call. I had little idea what I would be testing until I received an email that I was selected. The pattern I would be testing was a boyfriend fit button up shirt - Harvey.

The Harvey is relaxed fit, but not intended to be so oversized that it looks sloppy. I used a linen blend chambray fabric for my Harvey that I bought in the fabric district. It was super cheap as it had some discoloration, but it was easy enough to work around the flaws.

The final pattern likely changed a bit since I made this version in testing. I have not looked at the released pattern yet. Even though the Harvey is a relaxed fit, it was suggested that my next Harvey should have a small bit of width added to the back to prevent it from pooling above my backside. My back pleat is going the wrong way - oops.

I made the Harvey classic hip length with short sleeves. The pattern also includes long sleeves, a tunic length, and a stylish dress length. It also has the option for hip pockets. I opted for the chest pockets.

While the fit of my Harvey is not perfect, I will wear it and it is a pattern that I will make again.  The pattern was well drafted and the construction was simple. The short sleeve bands make finishing them a breeze.

I love a collar with a stand and the collar on the Harvey went together perfectly. The tunic and dress lengths have a hem facing - which I would have loved as an option for the shirt. I will definitely make a facing for the shirt if I make it again. Doing a double folded hem on the curved hem can be challenging.

I can see myself wearing the tunic length version with long sleeves in the fall with some flannel or a corderoy.

The Harvey is on sale for a limited time.

Ellie & Mac Women's Every Day Tee and Urban Legs

It's Wacky Wednesday at Ellie & Mac! This week I'm featuring the Everyday Tee and the Urban Legs. These patterns go great together!

I really love the hemline of the Everyday Tee. I made this one in a swim knit from Made Whimsy.

I love that the Everyday Tee back is longer and covers my behind.

I made the Urban Legs with a Blue Yoga Knit that is also from Made Whimsy. I love that the Urban Legs pattern give thigh and calf measurements so you can get the perfect fit.

The Urban Legs have three waistband options. I used the contoured band and love the fit.

Wacky Wednesday sale patterns are one dollar through Midnight on 04/24! Shop all Wacky Wednesday patterns HERE!

Itch to Stitch Isidro Top

Kennis at Itch to Stitch has another beautiful pattern for the warmer weather that I just love. It's the Isidro Top and it is a great wardrobe staple.

First I wanted to show the Isidro with a few of my favorite Itch to Stitch patterns. I'me wearing my Isidro with a Paro Cardigan and Mountain View Pull-on Jeans.

The Isidro has two options - sleeveless and a gathered butterfly sleeve.

The neckline features beautiful gathers for added interest. This Isidro was a size 8 bust graded to a 14 hip. Since I had some creases going to my armpits, I decided to make another in a size up for the bust since my over bust measurement is almost the same as my full bust measurement.

Here is my second Isidro. This one is a size 10 bust graded to 14 hips. The creases going to my armpit are pretty much eliminated. I made this one and the one above in a 2-way stretch poly jersey.

I paired this Isidro with my Gold Ponte Stitch Upon a Time Goldilegs. These were in my sewing room as I re-hemmed them after I made my first Isidro. I made these initially to wear with heels, but I don't wear heels anymore and wanted to shorten them so I could get some wear out of them.

I'm really loving this dark teal color with my gold pants.

I feel like I need to make a Paro Cardigan to go with this outfit.

I just had to make another Isidro so I could try the gathered flounce sleeve.

When I made my sleeveless versions of the Isidro, I'm sure Kennis was surprised at my choice of somewhat boring fabrics. I grabbed my Venus Flytraps Yoga/Swim Spandex from Zenith & Quasar for this Isidro. This fabric is currently at preorder and anything but boring.

The sleeve has gathers all the way around the arm. I love that not a lot of the underside of the fabric shows on the lower part of the sleeve. I did not hem my sleeve or the body of this Isidro. This fabric cuts cleanly and does well unhemmed.

I foresee many Isidros in my future. The sleeveless version makes a great layering piece and a bit fancier than a normal tank or camisole. It also gives better bra coverage. I did not remove any length from the Isidro for my height and can report that I can make my size from just 1 yard of fabric - sleeves included! The Isidro is on sale for a limited time.

Sew Big Fabrics Fruit Splash!

The Sew Big Fabrics Fruit Splash Round is full of fun fruit themed prints. All prints are available on a variety of bases. My favorite base is the Bamboo Lycra. When I saw the Monochrome Pineapple Purple Gradient print, I knew I needed to make a maxi dress with it.

I may not wear many dresses, but I do love a maxi dress. They are so comfortable to wear and they keep my legs hidden.

I used the leaf bodice and full back from the George + Ginger Mix It Up Dress for my maxi dress. I love bamboo lycra, but bamboo does not have the best recovery so I lined my bodice with athletic brushed poly. This will help prevent the bodice from sagging as I wear it over the course of the day.

I then just added a gathered skirt to it that was the appropriate length for my height.

This Pineapple Print is so fun and tropical. It makes me want to go on a beach vacation ASAP. The Bamboo fabric will help keep me cool no matter how hot & humid it is. Perfect for the beach.

Here's a closer look at the Pineapple print. The pineapples are done in a geometric design and look so cool on top of the purple gradient.

I really love the leaf bodice, but do find that it is a little low cut on me.

The Fruit Splash Round is open through May 6th. Here's a look at a few of the other fun prints at preorder.

George + Ginger Jawbreaker Peplum & Dress

I have been so busy this month. Here it is almost over and I'm just now getting around to blogging about the Pattern of the Month at George + Ginger. The pattern this month is the Jawbreaker Dress - which happens to have a peplum length.

I have been eyeing the Jawbreaker ever since it released and purchased it during a sale. I finally made it about 2 weeks ago.

What I really love about the Jawbreaker is the boatneck with pleats. You can also make it without the pleats.

As much as I love the look of the pleats, I find that being made with a stretch cotton lycra means they don't exactly want to stay laying flat. I am tempted to make another and to sew my pleats down.

I made the peplum skirt which is a full circle skirt that also has mini and dress lengths. The pattern also include the option for a fitted skirt.

I used the 3/4 length sleeves. The pattern also includes sleeveless, short sleeves, and long sleeves.

For my 5' height, I removed 1.5' from the length of the bodice.

As I am gearing up to only wear bottoms I have made, I also made a new pair of Greenstyle Creations Chelsea Pants. It's hard to see in these photos, but my pants are a black ponte de roma with tiny silver polka dots.

These pants are so comfortable. I love the flared leg.

They even have pockets!

The Jawbreaker is on sale through the end of the month for $6.75. If you bought the Mix It Up Dress, you can use the skirts from that pattern with the Jawbreaker for even more options.

George + Ginger Mix It Up Dress

Kristi at George + Ginger is always coming up with designs that are so different and fun. They often make me step out of my comfort zone, and I really need that push sometimes. The Mix It Up Dress is no different. The options are-

Front Bodice--yoke, horseshoe, leaf, keyhole and asymmetric
Back Bodice--yoke, square, diamond, keyhole and full closure
Sleeves--sleeveless, cap, short, elbow, 3/4 and long
Skirts--full circle (peplum, mini, dress), half circle (peplum, mini, dress), handkerchief (peplum, mini, dress), hi-lo tunic (short and long) AND fitted skirt to add to peplum, hi-lo or stand alone

I was assigned the asymmetrical front bodice with a full back, short sleeves, and the handkerchief peplum.

I really love how this combination looks. I love peplums and I have never done an asymmetrical front neckline before.

I used a cotton lycra from Made Whimsy. This is the Spiced Splatter which is currently at preorder.

This print has a beautiful texture and the weight is perfect for the Mix It Up Dress.

I didn't make just one Mix It Up Dress. Here is the first one I made. This one has the same options and was also made in a cotton lycra.

I've had this fabric so long, that I'm not sure where I bought it.
The print is a bunch of water color-esque dots in a million colors.

For my 5' height I removed 1.5" from the length of the bodice. I really love the length of the peplum.

These were not the only Mix It Up Dress that I made, but all I will share with you - for now. Here's a look at a few other combinations possible with this pattern.
