Love Notions Tidal Top & Dress

I bought the Tidal Top & Dress shortly after it was released. I love patterns from Love Notions and this one looked like it would be a great flowy top for me. However, the first one I made was terrible! I went with my bust measurement and figured there was enough ease for my hips. I was so wrong. Tami, the designer, did a sew-along which included a pattern piece for a godet and 3/4 length and long sleeves. Find the Love Notions Blog Post HERE. That really helped the fit of my original top, but I was still determined to get a perfect fit. I don't think I ever took photos of that top.

I recently reprinted my pattern and decided that I needed to grade out for my hips. And Ta-da! It fits great!

I made this one using a heathered dark olive cotton lycra from Made Whimsy and I got this gorgeous red rose floral from a mystery scrap pack from Wanderlust Designs Custom Fabric.

When I was on vacation, I took about 40 HTV designs with me to "weed". I picked a bunch of intricate designs and have been slowly finding uses for them. I had a red paisley/floral and thought it fit perfectly on the side.

I loved how great my Tidal came out, that I immediately made another.

This one is made with a thread spool cotton lycra from Cuddle Muffins Custom Printing. This print is at preorder through October 31st!. I used a rayon jersey for the back in a tan color.

If you haven't tried the Tidal Top & Dress yet, I do recommend it. Just make sure to make the pattern for ALL of your measurements.

Star Dust Textile Company Broadway!

Star Dust Textile Company is doing BROADWAY! They are featuring prints inspired by two hit Broadway shows - Wicked and Hamilton. I'm not familiar with either play, but I have some dear friends who are Hamilton fanatics, so I sewed these samples up for them. This preorder is closing on October 31st! Order HERE!

This is the "Shot" panel. The adult panel is a generous 30" wide by 36" tall size.  I used the Halla Patterns Amanda for the top for my friend. My friend is a little but skinnier and taller than me. It will look so much better on her.

I was also sent some of the coordinates "Stars Main" and "Stars Coordinate". The middle of my sleeve is scraps left over from the front panel.

I was trying to conserve my coordinate fabric to give me some fabric for a few other items and decided to do a solid black back and applique a star. The star is a scrap leftover from the front panel. I really love how it turned out!

I have another friend with a young Daughter that is Hamilton obsessed! I wanted to use up some of the fabric to make her a simple t-shirt. I grabbed the plain raglan from Duck Butt Designs and decided to use 2 fronts. This way the shirt can be worn with either design on the front.

I think the background of this print is really cool. It's like hammered gold.

The star coordinate is a great design that I could see being used for many projects and could coordinate with a lot of stuff.

I then used the scraps I had to make some undies. This pair is up for auction this weekend. Check it out at this Facebook Group!

This is a retired pattern. I love that I can piece the front.

The back is made from a Risque panel.  More on that later...

I probably could have made 2 pairs completely from the risque panel with piecing the fronts.

I really do wish I was a dress wearer, but I hate to show my legs. I have toyed around with the idea of making a maxi length Davina or even modifying it to a peplum top. The bodice fits so nicely and I love the pockets on this dress.

Rebranding

Let's be honest. I haven't really done too much cooking on this blog. I've been cooking, but let's just say - it's definitely not worth blogging about. Maybe one day I'll get back to my attempts to become an expert cook, but until then, I'm going to focus on what I'm good at - sewing and photography. So I've decided to rebrand myself. This actually started earlier this year when I became a Rheumatoid Arthritis Ambassador. I was asked to create a twitter account and to find a name that would tell people about me. I thought about it awhile and finally settled on @ sewingscientist. The name really grew on me, and I changed my Instagram account to the same name and made a new Instagram account for my personal life photos. Nothing here is really changing. You will still see lots and lots of posts about sewing. I just have a new name. A name that better represents me and what I do. I hope you love the new name as much as I do. I'm hoping to find someone to create a logo for me.

George & Ginger Slash Tunic

I love George & Ginger Patterns. The styles are always trendy and the fit is great. Kristi has changed her focus on women's patterns and has increased the size range using a new sizing chart. All new patterns will go up to a size 5X and now start with a size 12 tween. The Slash Tunic is the first pattern that utilizes the new sizing. For me, this meant I now fit completely into a size 12 on her size chart - no need for me to grade for my waist or hips.

The Slash tunic is amazing! I love wearing tunics with leggings - especially in the fall. It makes me feel put together, when in reality it's something I can just throw on and feel comfortable. The Slash Tunic has some unique features - princess seams and slits that can be as daring or modest as you want.

The princess seams create a flattering silhouette, while the slits allow a little peek of leg with movement. The Slash Tunic comes in 3 lengths: tunic, mid, and long. It also has multiple sleeves lengths.  I'm wearing the Mid Length with long sleeves. I made this with Black & Blush Liverpool from Made Whimsy. It's a steal at $7/yard!

The Slash Tunic is flared enough through the hips that even with my curvy hips, the sides of the tunic lay flat and the slit is hardly visible when standing. My leggings are some I made with black supplex from Zenith & Quasar. Supplex is my favorite fabric for leggings - it's more durable, doesn't pill, doesn't fade, and slightly compressive and holds in all the jiggly bits.

I loved the Slash Tunic so much, that I made another one right after the first. I did the tunic length with 3/4 length sleeves. The fabric is also from Made Whimsy. The rose gray Dragon Scales are currently at preorder through November 1st. I am wearing this one with a pair of skinny jeans.

Little Roots Fabrics Science Career Round 8

Little Roots Fabrics has a really cool round that really speaks to me. Well, some of the prints do. Round 8 is a career round and has firemen, construction, medical, chemistry, and STEM related prints. This Round is open through November 1st. Order HERE!

Little Roots Fabrics prints in the US using organic inks! And for every order placed a tree is planted in Colorado through One Tree Planted. There is so much to love about Little Roots Fabrics!

I was sent one of the STEM panels. This is the "Stem it" panel. There are so many to choose from and each panel is only $8! It comes as a 20" by 24" panel with a 12" by 20" coordinate.

The panel is big enough for a shirt front for me. The coordinate comes as a stripe at the bottom of the panel, but I added it to the top as colorblocking. It worked perfectly for this Rosaline top from KZJO Studio. I used a heathered denim cotton lycra from Made Whimsy for the back and sleeves. It coordinates perfectly with this panel.

I also got to play with the Chem Lab print. I love this print! It take me back to my days of supervising a water quality lab. I paired it with the Orange mini gradient dots. They look so great together. 

I made the Filles a Maman Extraordinary Girl - Woman's version.

Made Whimsy Game of Thrones

Made Whimsy is offering another round of Game of Thrones inspired prints. I've never seen this show - but, I still love these prints. All prints are available on cotton lycra and french terry.

This is the Rose Gray Dragon Scales Paired with the Dark Coral Made Whimsy Solid.  My top is a soon to be released pattern. I searched for GoT HTV designs for my top and found this one that I thought went perfect with the shape of my top.

These dragon scales are so gorgeous!

This top shows the Win or Lose print with the Made Whimsy Black cotton lycra. My top is the Hamburg Dolman from Shwin Designs.

I found an HTV design for this one too. These chess pieces match the ones in the fabric perfectly.

The details in this design are gorgeous and can be appreciated by non GoT fans.
