This Pandemic has effected my sewing in more ways than I had imagined. March 11 was my last day to work in the office and by that weekend I bought a bunch of patterns and supplies to begin making my own bras and bralettes with latex free elastic. I was excited for the April pattern of the month for George + Ginger - the Starc and immediately cut one out with some cotton lycra to use as a wearable pajama muslin. Then before I knew it I was eyeballs deep sewing masks. On April 26th, I finally had a break in my pandemic sewing and made my Starc Top and some coordinating leggings for some new pajamas.
I bought the Starc long ago when it was released. I just never had time to sew it. I made this one to the pattern. I knew I'd want to make adjustments to it, but it's always good to see how it looks as-is sometimes before doing any tweaks. And I had to make a tweak after I finished it as the front was way too low. I turned the front strap area inside out and took a half inch off the top seam and re-sewed it.
I wanted a bit of length to my Starc, so I left the length as is. I did cut the strappy bits 3 sizes smaller ans a lot of my shortness is from the waist up.
Next time I plan to make the bottom straps shorter. And no - I did not bother to hem my Starc top or my leggings. I finished the leggings today after work and hurriedly took photos and did this blog.
I feel really cute in my pajamas and will be wearing them tonight. It's very comfortable. The Starc Top has a lined bust. I ended up cutting 3" off the bottom of my lining and added a knit band to it for a shelf bra. It still ended up a tiny bit long and I'll take another 1/2" off it next time.
I do want to make a version that I can wear out in public. I will plan on taking a half inch out of the top below the straps and above the side seam. This should raise the neckline a tiny bit and I'll probably shorten the strappy pieces by an inch.
The Starc Top & Dress is on sale for a few more days for $6.75. A new pattern will be on sale for the month of May!
Speaking of May - I love participating in Me Made May and I'm going to make a point of finally making those bras and bralettes I had planned to sew during shelter in place. If I get brave - you might be seeing lots of posts with me in a bra next month. I'll also be celebrating my 44th birthday! I plan to bake myself a cake or maybe some cupcakes.
