Week ending May 15, 2022

This week I focused on finishing my Perfect Place Quilt (pattern by Lifting Limits Quilting).

I really want to improve my free motion quilting skills and tried my hand at a woodgrain pattern. I really love it!

I did a slightly wider binding than I normally do since this quilt top had a border. I used my Sequoia print for the binding using the remaining yardage from my quilt.

I am so fortunate to be an ambassador for Studio e Fabrics which is part of the Jaftex family of fabric companies. The president Scott Fortunoff is incredibly kind and generous. He had a zoom call with the new Ambassadors last month and asked each of us what fabric we would want from the Jaftex wearhouse - it could be from any of the brands they own.  Of course I picked Anna Maria Horner. I was blown away when I received this box of fabric from Scott and the Jaftex team. They even threw in a little Tula Pink too.  I can't wait to create with these!

I got photos of my completed quilt made with Geofetti 2 Collection from Studio e Fabrics. This line is in stores now.

I am so happy that I did free motion quilting on it. I love how it looks and know the more I do it, the more I'll improve. I did the binding with leftover strips of a few of the prints. I love a scrappy binding.

I also finished my Perfect Place Quilt and got a few photos of it.

The backing is minky from Spoonflower in my Sequoia print design. The new trellis arch on my patio is perfect for displaying throw sized quilts.

I finished my weekend working on 2021 temperature quilt. I signed up to do a 5 in May WIP Along. I'm 3 down and 2 to go.

I'll be heading out on vacation soon. I'm going to work on a WIP- some Lucy Boston blocks and I'm taking some counted cross stitch patterns with me. We will see how much I manage to get done.

Week ending May 8, 2022

I joined the 5 in May WIP along and got to work finishing the first one. First up was my Geofetti 2 Quilt. I tape my backing to the floor then put down the batting and Quilt top. Then pin  baste.

I also worked on my King Sized Quilt using the Column Block pattern from Heather Ann Dye Art.

I'm adding a border around it in this beautiful paisley that I got at Urban Spools on Fifth Saturday. I think I'll also use this for the binding.

I did free motion quilting on my Geofetti quilt. It was my first time doing FMQ on a quilt. I've done pillows and smaller items, but thus was my first quilt. It was HARD!

It's also Me Made Day and I've been posting my daily outfits on Instagram in my stories. I went into work for the first time in a long while and had to get a photo there. On this day I wore the Fortuna Pants from the Sew Beautiful book by Kennis Wong and my top is a McCalls pattern. I made both of these during the pandemic and it was my first time to wear the too for more than just photos.

This weekend I got the binding on my Geofetti quilt. I did a scrappy binding. I absolutely love how it came out. This backing was so perfect and I'm so happy to have a nice big chunk left to use in a future project.

I ended the weekend working on one more WIP. I got started on quilting my Perfect Place Quilt (pattern by Lifting Limits Quilting). I am a suckered for punishment, but also determined to learn FMQ well and to get better at it - so I'm doing a wood grain fmq pattern. It's going pretty good and I thinkni would do things a bit differently if I do it again. I think I made my pattern too small. It's going to take awhile to finish, but I do love dense quilting. I think once it's washed it's going to look really good.

I'm hoping to get my Perfect Place Quilt finished this coming week.  Then onto the next WIP.

Week ending May 1, 2022

Not a whole lot happened in my sewing room last week. I worked a lot in the yardvand at work itself. I did get all my blocks made for a King sized quilt. I used the column block pattern from Heather Ann Dye Art. It's a free pattern and makes a big block!

I had fun using up a lot of scraps from a few recent quilts.

On Saturday I went to Urban Spools for fifth Friday and got the perfect backing for my Geofetti 2 quilt. I also grabbed fabric for a birder for my King sized quilt.

I played with layout of my finished column blocks.

I moved them around a few times. I am sewing a border between the blocks from side to side. I'm planning on having a finished quilt that is around 105" x 105".

I joined a WIP along for May with the goal to tackle five in May. My Geofetti quilt and my King sized quilt are 2 of my five. One more is to quilt my Perfect Place Quilt, I also want to finish my temperature quilt for 2021, and my last WIP is to make a few Lucy Boston blocks on my vacation.
