Sly Fox Fabrics Medallion Double Brushed Poly

I love wild and bright prints. That shouldn't surprise you if you've been following me for awhile. When I saw this print previewed by Sly Fox Fabrics, I knew I had to have it!

This Medallion Double Brushed Poly (DBP) is just gorgeous!

I knew immediately that I wanted to make the Halla Patterns Autumn Sweater Cocoon Cardigan with it.

I love it! There are so many beautiful colors in this print, that I will be able to wear this a bunch!

The DBP is so soft too. It makes the ultimate cozy cardigan for fall.

I couldn't let any of the Medallion DBP go to waste. I used the rest to make the Shwin Designs Hamburg Dolman.

I used a cream colored sweater knit for the body and sleeve cuffs. I love using a neutral with the bold print of the Medallion DBP.

I love the sleeves on the Hamburg Dolman.

This sweater knit was so stretchy that my top came out very long. After I took these photos I cut two inches off and put the bottom band back on.

The Medallion DBP will be available on 11/28 at Sly Fox Fabrics.  Join the Sly Fox Fabrics Facebook Group to get notification of when this print goes live. I expect it will sell out quick.

George + Ginger Slash Tunic

It's been awhile since I made a George + Ginger Slash Tunic, so what better time than now. The Slash Tunic is best when made with heavier and stiffer knits like liverpool and scuba. These types of knits tend to be hot so I love them for fall and winter wear.

I've had this Nicole Miller scuba knit from Jo-Ann's in my stash for a long time. The print was called Boho Patch Multi.

I really love that with a busy print like this, the princess seams seem to disappear.

I just love the slash hem on the Slash Tunic. It allows for the leg to peak through as you walk and move, but it stays closed when standing. You can make the slash openings as daring or modest as you like. I prefer them to open beginning at my high hip to ensure I don't flash and flesh.

The Slash Tunic comes in tunic, mid, and long lengths. This is the mid length.

It also has three sleeve options; short, 3/4, and long. These are the 3/4 length sleeves.

The back has a center seam with shaping to prevent pooling at the lower back and to also allow for sway back adjustments. The back lays nice and flat, I'm just standing wonky in the photo.

The Slash Tunic is a great piece to wear over leggings or skinny leg pants. I keep saying that I'm going to make a few in solid colors to wear with leggings, but the funky bold prints always grab my attention first. If you are interested, the link to my first blog on the Slash Tunic can be found HERE.

Friday Feature Freebie Sewing Patterns

I recently sewed up two free patterns that I think are pretty great. I love free patterns and know everyone else does too - especially when they end up being pretty great. So I think I'll try to do a featured freebie one friday a month. How does that sound? For this first installment you get 2 freebies!

First up is the Greenstyle Creations Green Tee. This pattern is free with a code from the Facebook Group. You can then find the code in the Announcements HERE. The pattern comes with a v-neck and a scoop neck option and only includes short sleeves. However, there is a free long sleeve add-on that can be found HERE.

I ended up with very few photos in focus - so these two are all you get to see. Plus, I need to grade out a little more for my belly and hips next time. I'm sucking in big time in that photo above. I made this Green Tee with a blue wood gain athletic brushed poly from Zenith & Quasar. I'll be making a long sleeved Green Tee soon.

Next is the Patterns for Pirates Tulip Tee. This is free on the website - no code needed. There's also a kids version - also free. The Tulip Tee pdf pattern does not include the cowl I added below. But - the information to add a cowl like this is found on the Patterns for Pirates Blog HERE. The Tulip Tee also includes a nursing friendly underlayer option as well.

I did not have the add-on pack that the Patterns for Pirates Blog refers to for the cowl, but I just drafted my own. I measured the neckline and cut a rectangle that was the width of the neckline and 10" tall.

I made this Tulip Tee with a lightweight sweater knit I bought at Wherehouse Fabrics from the remnant table. I threw it on over my Green Tee. You can see a lit of the blue Green Tee peeking out.

The Tulip Tee has a slightly curved hem in the back. I highly recommend ironing the hem before topstitching it. You hem the entire top in one fell swoop and ironing first will make it much easier to ensure you get an even hem all the way around.

I love this top more than I had thought I would. I did take a bit of length out of the Tulip Tee for my height and redrew the tulip front to account for the removal.

Grab both of these Freebies and try them for yourself. I think you will love them too.

Nature's Fabrics Bamboo Spandex French Terry

Nature's Fabrics has to have the largest selection of Bamboo fabrics that I have ever seen. I recently got a sample of the Bamboo French Terry and I love it! I need a whole winter wardrobe made from it.

This is seriously the softest french terry I have ever felt.

I just love this green color, but I'm not positive which it might be. You can see all the colors available HERE. Nature's Fabrics has all their Bamboo fabrics on sale this week and they will also be on sale for Black Friday.

I had a hard time deciding what to make with the Bamboo French Terry because I had so many ideas! I wanted to make a cardigan or joggers, but had so many other ideas too.

Then my thoughts came to this top that I keep seeing advertised on Facebook by shops like Wish & Zulily.

So, I set off to make my own version using the Designer Stitch Gemma sewing pattern as my base.  The Gemma is a twist top that has two variations - twist front or twist back. I blogged about the Gemma Twist front a few months ago. You can read it HERE.

I used the Gemma Twist Back version to recreate my inspiration. I made a few slight modifications to make it wearable with the twist in the front. Before I cut my pattern out, I traced the back neckline of the twist front version onto the front piece of the twist back version. I then cut the neckline somewhere between the two as I thought I still might want to wear this top with the twist in the back one day.

The Gemma does not include long sleeves. These sleeves were some that I drafted - but it's super easy. You want to add the sleeves before sewing the side seams. Simply measure the distance of the end of the pattern sleeve, then measure roughly how long you want your sleeves. Then draw out the pattern piece using these measurements. Taper the rectangle to be slimmer at the wrist.

My sleeves could have been made a little slimmer and a little shorter. But I think I did a pretty good job copying my inspiration.

I somehow only managed to get one photo of the back.

Nature's Fabrics is have a huge Bamboo sale right now and will have another great sale on Black Friday. Shop now before things sell out, and go back for Black Friday for some extra savings.

If you haven't tried the bamboo french terry, please give it a try. You'll ever want any ordinary french terry again. https://www.naturesfabrics.com/

Be Proud! Charity Auction

The Be Proud! Charity Auction will be November 16 - 18. The event is held on Facebook HERE! This is my second year to participate. All proceeds from items being auctioned, minus PayPal fees and shipping fees, will be donated directly to one of the following charities.

Point of Pride - https://www.facebook.com/pointofpride/ Point of Pride works to support trans youth and adults who otherwise lack access through gender-affirming programs that empower them to live more authentically. Point of Pride is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Eugene, Oregon that serves the international transgender community. They are entirely volunteer-operated.
The Trevor Project - https://www.facebook.com/TheTrevorProject/Founded in 1998 by the creators of the Academy Award®-winning short film TREVOR, The Trevor Project is the leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) young people ages 13-24.
I received fabric from two amazing Fabric Groups to sew and donate my items to the auction.

First, I want to show you what I made for Sew Big Fabrics.

This is the Elle Puls Bethouia. It's a very unique raglan and I feel like raglans are a pretty unisex clothing item. This one has straight sides - so no curvieness for the female figure.

This is the Gender Fluid Adult panel and the coordinating print Heart Flags (half scale). I added a few inches to  the length of this top.

I just love the back of the Bethouia. It adds an interesting element to an otherwise plain back.

I made a straight european size 40 for the auction. I normally grade this pattern out for my hips, but I'm kinda liking it fitted in my hips.

Here's a closer view of the back.

I used the scraps to make a pair of womens undies.

I used the child sized gender fluid panel for the back of the undies.

Here's a look at the prints and panels that are being offered at Sew Big Fabrics. The Preorder is open from November 12 - 24th.

Fabric Anthropology also sent me fabric. Their preorder is open November 10 - 24.

I made the Love Notions Tidal Top and Dress for the All for Love panel. This was a kids sized panel.

I love the relaxed fit of the Tidal Top and how the back piece wraps around to the front.

The back is a soft and stretchy poly spandex from Zenith and Quasar.

I also received a Sit With Us kids panel. I thought it was perfect for the Shwin Designs Carolina Tee. I used watercolor stripes from Sew Big Fabrics for the bands.

Tha back and sleeves of this top are made with sweater knit that's very stretchy. This will allow a larger size range to fit it.

This top also has a back that wraps around to the front.

Next I made two Halla Patterns Autumn Sweaters in the cocoon cardigan version .  For this first one, I used a safety pin print cotton lycra for the front. A safety pin on your clothing is to indicate that you are "safe". As in you are non-judgemental and someone a person can be "safe with".

I used the "May Not Be the Same" panel for the back. It is gorgeous and sends a powerful message.

This cocoon cardigan is a size 10/12 grade to 14/16 hips. But as it is a cardigan with dolman sleeves, it can accomodate bigger or smaller sizes.

I also used the Pride Splosion Stripe for a Halla Cocoon Cardigan.

I'm seriously thinking about bidding on it so I can keep this one.

I even did my best to stripe match!

I used a rib knit for the sleeves and bands of both cardigans.
