Ellie & Mac Discoverer Tee - Wacky Wednesday

It's Wacky Wednesday at Ellie & Mac! As I continue on my goal to sew up my fabric stash and pattern stash, the Discoverer Tee was on my list. I bought it shortly after it released and just never found the time to get to it. I'm so glad that I finally did. I ended up making this one, then made a few more using a few hacks that I posted on the Ellie & Mac Blog. You can find it HERE.

The Discoverer Tee is so flattering on! It's fitted in the shoulders and bust, then is a bit looser through the waist and hips.

The Discoverer Tee was the perfect pattern for me to use up some fabric scraps and remnants. The saffron color fabric is a cotton lycra from Made Whimsy. The print is a double brushed poly remnant that I picked up at Wherehouse Fabrics. It was barely tall enough for my pattern pieces. I normally don't buy florals, but I think I got this one for the colors.

The back also has the curved color blocking. I love how it looks.

Wacky Wednesday means that 6 patterns are on sale for only $1 each through Midnight on Wednesday, January 29th. Find all the Wacky Wednesday Sale Patterns HERE!

Winter Wear Designs Traveler Tee

I love Winter Wear Designs patterns, but I always seem to miss the cut off on Suzanne's tester calls. I think she felt sorry for me this time, because she told me she'd make room for me! I was thrilled as I was head over heels in love with the line drawing she had posted of the Traveler Tee.

I am a sucker for patterns that allow me to mix wovens and knits together. This is mainly because I tend to save scraps and have a tendency to pick up amazing remnants in the fabric district that are not big enough for an entire project. I used a mauve poly jersey and a rayon woven (if you recognize it, I've used it for 2 different tops,  both of which are Winter Wear patterns).

The Traveler Tee above was the first one I made and I made a size too big! My bust is 37.5" and the size large stated 38" and I figured my bust was closer to the large than the medium. Suzanne pointed out my mistake, but it was too late - I had already cut out another one. See below.

I used a poly jersey and a satin-y woven for this Traveler Tee. Both the one above and this one I made the cap sleeved version. To get a perfect corner, you must follow the instructions exactly! I love to add a strip of interfacing to my knit piece to prevent it from stretching as I sew it to the woven bodice.

Before I sewed up the Traveler Tee above, I cut out the Medium and sewed both at the same time. I decided to use the same satin-y woven I used above for this Traveler Tee. But this time I used a different portion. It gives it a totally different look. This time I paired it with a brushed nylon knit from Zenith & Quasar.

I removed 2" from the length of all the Traveler Tees I made. As you can see, the medium is significantly shorter on me than the large ones above.

This one is also a cap sleeve and has the longer back.

The pattern got a final tweak - although no changes were made to the size medium, I still printed it out and made another Traveler Tee.

I made this Traveler Tee with a rayon spandex knit and a cotton voile. This one is the short sleeved version with the straight hem in the back.

The pattern includes an elbow length, 3/4 length, and long sleeve option in addition to cap sleeve and short sleeve. If we were not entering Spring and Summer, I would have made a flannel and sweater knit version with long sleeves. I'm putting it on my fall sewing list now!

I really love the fit of the Traveler Tee and have already worn 2 of the tops I made. I'm debating on trying to take in the large ones or give them to my mother. I did wear the first large one and loved how it felt on. The only problem with it is that the armholes are a bit big and you can see my bra when I lift my arm. I will definitely be making more of these not only for this summer, but I will make a few for this fall & winter.

The Traveler Tee is part of the Winter Wear Wardrobe Builders Collection. All patterns in this collection are $5! They are all great basics that are beginner or adventurous beginner friendly.

Ellie & Mac Sunny Day Dress

It's Wacky Wednesday at Ellie & Mac! Every Wednesday 6 patterns are marked down to only $1! This week I'm showing off the Sunny Day Tunic & Dress pattern.

And yes, I did make the dress version!

I really do love maxi length dresses and do find that I wear them often in the summer.

The Sunny Day Tunic & Dress is a super quick sew with only 1 pattern piece. The front and back bodice pieces are the same. The bodice is lined and the skirt is a rectangle that you are given the dimensions for.

For my Sunny Dress, I used fabrics from Zenith & Quasar. The bodice is a plush brushed poly in the Secret Garden print.

The skirt is a brushed nylon that is so soft. I just love the feel of the brushed nylon on my legs.

Ellie & Mac Autumn Spice Top

It's Wacky Wednesday at Ellie & Mac. Six patterns are discounted to only $1 through midnight on January 23. This week, I'm featuring the Autumn Spice Top.

The Autumn Spice Top is a relaxed fit top with multiple color blocking options - perfect for using up scraps. I'm wearing a heart monitor this month and completely forgot I had it on when I took these photos. I've been taking it off or at least tucking it into my bra for photos, but completely forgot about it.

I removed 2" from the length of the pattern for my 5' height. The length is only removed from the center color blocking piece. I think I will remove an additional inch when I make my next Autumn Spice Top.

I used scraps from my stash to make my Autumn Spice Top. The top section is a poly jersey, the middle is athletic brushed poly from Zenith & Quasar, and the bottom is rayon spandex.

I absolutely love the fit of the Autumn Spice Top and will definitely be making more. The pattern has two variations for the top color blocking piece. There is an above the bust (which I used) and a below the bust.

It's also possible to join sections together to only have two sections to color block. The Autumn Spice Top pattern also has short and 3/4 length sleeve options for limitless possibilities.

Itch to Stitch Uvita Add On Pack

The Uvita from Itch to Stitch is a FREE pattern. I have several I have made over the past year that I wear all the time. I made the one below during the initial testing  - slightly modified to be a little wider to fit the panels I used.

Kennis has released an add-on pack for the Uvita and it has a bunch of fun options.

I tested the floppy stand up collar and flare sleeve. I folded my collar over. I never realized I had such a short neck.

I made this with cotton lycra from Made Whimsy.

The photo below shows the collar as it is intended.

I couldn't stop at one new Uvita - I had to make another.

This one is a brushed poly from Vintage Lace. These fabrics were offered as a fundraiser for victims of Hurricane Harvey.

Be sure to check out the Itch to Stitch Blog to see all the options available in the add-on pack.

Halla Patterns Mirra Raglan

Halla Patterns has a new pattern out and it's the Mirra Raglan with a ton of options!

In testing I made the plainest Mirra Raglan possible. No pockets or other fun features.

But I did use fun fabric! How cute are these kitties in boxes?

The Mirra Raglan is a semi fitted top. I tend to prefer a slightly looser fit to help hide by belly. I already have plans to make a few Mirra Raglans with the cowl and making them about 2 sizes bigger for a slouchy fit.

I love the neckline on the Mirra Raglan. It's got a boatneck like shape that I really love.

When I cut out the Mirra Raglan, I forgot to take length out for my height and ended up cutting 3" off the bottom before I hemmed it.

All Halla pdf patterns are on sale for 40% off with the code HOLIDAY. Click HERE to have the discount automatically added.

Ellie & Mac To The Point Tunic & Dress

It's Wacky Wednesday at Ellie & Mac! This week I made the To The Point Tunic & Dress.

Just like the name To The Point Tunic & Dress indicates - there are dress and tunic versions. Two tunic lengths and two dress lengths. I made the long tunic.

The To The Point Tunic & Dress also has a fitted version and loose version. I made the loose version, but feel like I could have gone up one size to get a better fit. Mainly because I have a swayback and think a looser fit would help eliminate some of the bunching I have in the back.

I got this fabric from my sweet friend Sharon at Sweet Mama Life. She and I swap fabric scraps all the time. We often buy more fabric than we need for a project and pass along the extras when we are done. We have a cute tote bag that we pass back and forth filled with our remnants.

I think this plaid fabric Sharon gave me was perfect for the To The Point Tunic. The diagonal plaid really accentuates the point.

I think it looks great with my red pants I made about 2 years ago. These are from a pattern from a company that eliminated it's womens patterns a few years ago. They are made with some thick yoga knit that I bought also a few years ago.

The To The Point Tunic was a really quick sew and I'll definitely make more. I think I'll make the shorter tunic length next time and try it one size bigger to see if it helps my swayback issue.

The To The Point Tunic & Dress is on sale for only $1 through Midnight on Wednesday (December 19th). To see all the patterns that are on sale for $1 - click HERE!

In addition, Ellie & Mac has ALL patterns on sale for only $3 through December 31st!

Itch to Stitch Busan Top

I love testing for Kennis at Itch to Stitch. The newest pattern I tested, the Busan Top, is a new favorite!

The Busan Top is designed to be made with heavier knits. The sleeves won't have as dramatic a flair if you use a lighter knit.

This makes the Busan Top perfect for cotton lycra. It's hard to find patterns for tops that can be made with cotton lycra that are not plain t-shirts or raglans.

Check out these sleeves! The top has narrow shoulder and these big pleated sleeves that look great on all figures. If you have broad shoulders, they are minimized, and if you have narrow shoulders (like me) they add a bit of volume to make them look bigger (and my hips look smaller).

I also love the high neckline. This is the perfect top for cooler weather.

Here's a closer look at the pleats on the sleeve.

I love that the Busan Top is slightly loose. It's a comfortable fit that I feel good in.

Of course I couldn't make just one Busan Top!

Look how gorgeous the sleeve is in this green velvet from Zenith & Quasar!

I love how dressy it feels in this velvet.

I'm tempted to make another one of these tops in velvet. But I'm on a velvet kick lately and want to make everything in velvet.

I was hoping to make at least one more Busan Top before the pattern released, but time got away from me. I'll definitely be making time to sew another one or two over the holidays.

The Busan Top is on sale for $8 through December 21st! Be sure to check out the release blog post with photos from the other testers. It can be seen HERE! So many testers made fancy holiday worthy versions that are worth seeing.
