Itch to Stitch Cape Cod Capelet

It's November! How is it November already? Not only that, but the time change thanks to daylight saving time has my inner clock all out of whack. November means that the weather is finally cooling down here in Texas and Itch to Stitch has released the perfect pattern for this seasonal transition. I present to you - the Cape Cod Capelet! I promise, it's the pattern you never knew you needed.

Where I live the temperature can swing dramatically in a short amount of time. It is also very temperate with few days where I need a heavy coat. The Cape Cod Capelet is perfect for throwing on to keep me cozy for a stroll around the lake.

It would also be great to wear over a tank top or short sleeve top for a bit of added comfort and to transition those pieces into the cooler weather.  Sweater knits, french terry, really any medium weight knits with a bit of drape  are perfect for the Cape Cod Capelet. I made this one with a Hacci Sweater Knit.

I'm wearing my Cape Cod Capelet with a long sleeved tee and my Mountainview Pull-on Jeans.

Of course, I made more than one Cape Cod Capelet. I used a looser weave sweater knit for this one.

It is so soft and comfortable that I just want to live in it. The Cape Cod Capelet  has a longer back. The front piece in the pattern has been  lengthened by 2 inches in the final pattern. I am  5' tall and did not remove any length for my height.

I also made a Cape Cod Capelet in a light grey melange hacci sweater knit.

My thoughts were that this one would be a nice neutral color that could go with a lot of my tops.

The Cape Cod Capelet really makes me look pulled together. After all, I'm just wearing a black tee and jeans.

I definitely will be making another Cape Cod Capelet or maybe a few more.  I'm thinking a black one for sure.

The Cape Cod Capelet pattern is perfect for a beginner and would make great gifts. It goes together very fast and the sizing is simple and could fit a range of sizes without needing a person's exact measurements. The Cape Cod Capelet is on sale for $5.60 through November 12th!

Itch to Stitch Spotlight September

I always look forward to the Itch to Stitch  Blog Tour. This year's theme is September Spotlight! Each blogger is highlighting a pattern or two that was released back in the early days of Itch to Stitch. Select patterns are on sale during the tour each day for 25% off.

Here are the Bloggers for the ITS September Spotlight Itch to Stitch Blog Tour

September 16th
September 17th
September 18th
September 19th
September 20th

I chose to make two patterns for the blog tour. First up is the Marbella Dress. The Marbella Dress was the first pattern released by Kennis on October 8, 2014! It is a very classic silhouette and very versatile with two skirt options.

It has pockets!

Both skirt options are knee length. As you may know - I'm not a fan for showing off my knees or legs. So I decided to make a maxi length Marbella Dress.

The pattern comes in cup sizes - which is especially handy for those that normally need to do an FBA. It has a wide boat neckline with the front and back both having a yoke with a seamed bodice. The Marbella Dress can be made lined or unlined and has an invisible back zipper. I am quite proud of my pattern matching of the back center seam. I have a sway back and should have done more of an adjustment than I did. I'll know better for my next one.

I used an Anna Maria Horner Ghost Wing in Dusk on a linen/cotton blend. I found this fabric at Super Textiles in the Dallas Fabric District for only $3/yard. This fabric is how I met Sharon (Sweet Mama Life - be sure to catch her blog today as well!). I'll have to share that story another day.

I bought about 8 yards of this fabric. I made curtains with it for my sewing room and the rest has been sitting on my shelf waiting for me to use it. When I decided to make the Marbella Dress, I knew this would be perfect.

I tried to very conscious of the design as I cut my pattern pieces and looking back, I wish I had done it a bit differently. I now wish I had tried to pattern match my front yoke with the center front panel and I wish I had done a solid grey for the side panels. I still love how my dress came out and I have a felling it will get lots of wear.

September in Texas us still very hot. Our average high temps don't get below 90 until mid October/ So I will have plenty of opportunities to wear my new dress. My arms often get cold when I am indoors at work and wanted something cute to wear on top - especially as we go into fall.

I've had the Salamanca Cropped Jacket on my "must sew" list since it released on March 7, 2016. It released concurrently with the Zamora Blouse which I tested. Back then, I was scared to try to test two patterns at the same time.

I've become quite fond of cropped jackets and I have been wanting a denim cropped jacket for some time. The Salamanca was perfect for this lightweight medium blue denim that I grabbed at the Dallas Fabric District. I tried my Salamanca on before I gave it one final press before doing the buttons and quickly decided that I loved it without buttons and didn't think I would ever wear it buttoned up.

I did remove 1.5" from the length of my Salamanca for my height.  I think I could have removed another 0.5" and might for my next one. One my maxi length Marbella, I gave it a bottom center slit to ease in movement - but I probably would have been fine without it.

The Salamanca is super comfortable and this denim will go with so many items in my closet.

The Salamanca is also lined. I used a pretty quilting cotton from my stash for the lining.

The construction of the Salamanca was so interesting and resulted in a perfectly finished item inside and out. It had me scratching my head at some points, but a few steps later I was mind boggled by the genius of it.  But all of Kennis's patterns are like that. I learn something new each time.

For today only the following patterns are on sale for 25% off with the code 920itsblogtour25

Itch to Stitch Summer Classics

Summer in Texas is HOT! However, I work in an office building that is always freezing cold. My favorite pieces for office attire are from Itch to Stitch. They are classy looking and many lend themselves well to layering under a cardigan. I thought I'd round up a few favorites to share in case you need some summer fashion inspiration.

First off the Chai Shirt. I wear this swiss dot sleeveless Chai Shirt frequently during the summer.

I wouldn't wear swiss dot any other time of year and this one looks great with jeans or when I wear it to work with navy pants and a navy cardigan.

I have made a few Chirripo's and have yet to make the version with the flounce sleeves. I love the Chirripo sleeveless. I often wear this particular one with these blue pants and a blue shrug to work.

The wide shoulder straps keep my bra straps covered at all times.

This Isidro Top is one of my favorite items in my closet. I think the Venus Fly Trap print is so fun and unique. I wear it frequently to work with these blue pants. I also have hot pink pants that I also wear with it.

These sleeves can be a bit more challenging with a cardigan, but I have a few with dolman sleeves that work great with it.

The Beausoleil is such a fun top. I love the cold shoulder cutouts. I have made a few of theses and this one is my favorite.

I always wear white pants with this Beausoleil and take a white cardigan with me when wearing it to work.

I rarely wear my Plitvice all on it's own. It looks great under a jacket for office attire.

Only reason I don't wear this one all on it's own as I made it with a clingy fabric and feel like it shows every roll. I really need to make another in a thicker, less clingy knit as this top is so comfortable and like I said - looks amazing when  layered.

Since summer lasts well into September here in Texas, I still have some summer sewing to do. More Itch to Stitch patterns are on my sewing summer list.

Zenith & Quasar Sketchy Mushrooms

I'm busy packing to move, but needed to show you another great print at Preorder at Zenith & Quasar. This is Sketchy Mushrooms.

I made the Itch to Stitch Isidro Top with my yard of Sketchy Mushrooms.

It goes perfectly with my Zenith & Quasar Brown Heavy Supplex Designer Stitch Harper Pants.

There are a lot of little details in this print that are so hard to see in photos. The mushrooms are sketches with handwriting. I really love the gathered neckline of the Isidro Top. I did a rolled hem on my sleeves and the shirt hem.

The background is almost white. It's not quite cream, but has a slight tint to it. The mushrooms are shades of brown with some reddish shades as well.

Preorder closes June 29th! See all the prints and order at https://www.zenithandquasar.com/product-category/preorder-r34-reprints/

Itch to Stitch Isidro Top

Kennis at Itch to Stitch has another beautiful pattern for the warmer weather that I just love. It's the Isidro Top and it is a great wardrobe staple.

First I wanted to show the Isidro with a few of my favorite Itch to Stitch patterns. I'me wearing my Isidro with a Paro Cardigan and Mountain View Pull-on Jeans.

The Isidro has two options - sleeveless and a gathered butterfly sleeve.

The neckline features beautiful gathers for added interest. This Isidro was a size 8 bust graded to a 14 hip. Since I had some creases going to my armpits, I decided to make another in a size up for the bust since my over bust measurement is almost the same as my full bust measurement.

Here is my second Isidro. This one is a size 10 bust graded to 14 hips. The creases going to my armpit are pretty much eliminated. I made this one and the one above in a 2-way stretch poly jersey.

I paired this Isidro with my Gold Ponte Stitch Upon a Time Goldilegs. These were in my sewing room as I re-hemmed them after I made my first Isidro. I made these initially to wear with heels, but I don't wear heels anymore and wanted to shorten them so I could get some wear out of them.

I'm really loving this dark teal color with my gold pants.

I feel like I need to make a Paro Cardigan to go with this outfit.

I just had to make another Isidro so I could try the gathered flounce sleeve.

When I made my sleeveless versions of the Isidro, I'm sure Kennis was surprised at my choice of somewhat boring fabrics. I grabbed my Venus Flytraps Yoga/Swim Spandex from Zenith & Quasar for this Isidro. This fabric is currently at preorder and anything but boring.

The sleeve has gathers all the way around the arm. I love that not a lot of the underside of the fabric shows on the lower part of the sleeve. I did not hem my sleeve or the body of this Isidro. This fabric cuts cleanly and does well unhemmed.

I foresee many Isidros in my future. The sleeveless version makes a great layering piece and a bit fancier than a normal tank or camisole. It also gives better bra coverage. I did not remove any length from the Isidro for my height and can report that I can make my size from just 1 yard of fabric - sleeves included! The Isidro is on sale for a limited time.
