Itch to Stitch Cape Cod Capelet

It's November! How is it November already? Not only that, but the time change thanks to daylight saving time has my inner clock all out of whack. November means that the weather is finally cooling down here in Texas and Itch to Stitch has released the perfect pattern for this seasonal transition. I present to you - the Cape Cod Capelet! I promise, it's the pattern you never knew you needed.

Where I live the temperature can swing dramatically in a short amount of time. It is also very temperate with few days where I need a heavy coat. The Cape Cod Capelet is perfect for throwing on to keep me cozy for a stroll around the lake.

It would also be great to wear over a tank top or short sleeve top for a bit of added comfort and to transition those pieces into the cooler weather.  Sweater knits, french terry, really any medium weight knits with a bit of drape  are perfect for the Cape Cod Capelet. I made this one with a Hacci Sweater Knit.

I'm wearing my Cape Cod Capelet with a long sleeved tee and my Mountainview Pull-on Jeans.

Of course, I made more than one Cape Cod Capelet. I used a looser weave sweater knit for this one.

It is so soft and comfortable that I just want to live in it. The Cape Cod Capelet  has a longer back. The front piece in the pattern has been  lengthened by 2 inches in the final pattern. I am  5' tall and did not remove any length for my height.

I also made a Cape Cod Capelet in a light grey melange hacci sweater knit.

My thoughts were that this one would be a nice neutral color that could go with a lot of my tops.

The Cape Cod Capelet really makes me look pulled together. After all, I'm just wearing a black tee and jeans.

I definitely will be making another Cape Cod Capelet or maybe a few more.  I'm thinking a black one for sure.

The Cape Cod Capelet pattern is perfect for a beginner and would make great gifts. It goes together very fast and the sizing is simple and could fit a range of sizes without needing a person's exact measurements. The Cape Cod Capelet is on sale for $5.60 through November 12th!

Ellie & Mac High Hopes Dolman

Ellie & Mac has a new women's top out. It's the High Hopes Dolman. It's a loose fit dolman top with a banded bottom and cuffed sleeves.

Since we are going into spring and warmer weather, I made mine with a lightweight sweater knit.

I removed 1.5" from the length of the body and the sleeves, but I probably could have removed more as this sweater knit wants to grow. The pattern does not include length/shorten lines, so I had to draw my own.

I made the regular scoop neck, but the neckline ended up very big. I blame the sweater knit.

I decided to wear the High Hopes Dolman off the shoulder and it looks so cute this way. The pattern does include an off the shoulder option.

I wore my George + Ginger Road Trip Bodysuit under my High Hopes Dolman and really love how it looks.

The High Hopes Dolman is on sale for $3.85 through March 24th. In addition, all patterns are on sale for 40% off.

5 out of 4 Jenny Cross Front Tunic

5 out of 4 Patterns just released the Jenny Cross Front Tunic. I see this style of cross over sweater on Pinterest all the time and have always wanted a pattern for one - and I finally have one.

The crossover front is banded an it is suggested to use clear elastic in the seam. I used a braided 1/4" elastic instead. I think I accidentally stretch my elastic sightly in a few areas. I'm hoping it relaxes after a few more washes or hits with the iron. But the waviness doesn't bother me much.

The pattern also include a tank to wear underneath for modesty. I did make the tank, but I am not wearing it in these photos. I was making a second Jenny Cross Front Tunic and made the tank first and ended up throwing my second Jenny Cross Front Tunic in the trash. Don't use a super lightweight and sheer sweater knit. Trust me - it will not go well.

The Jenny Cross Front Tunic goes together pretty fast. For some reason every time I make a top that requires you to hem it first, they seem to go faster.

The Jenny Cross Front Tunic in sweater knit is perfect for the cold weather. Several testers made short sleeve versions in brushed poly and ITY knits for warmer weather. I'll definitely be trying a short sleeve Jenny as soon as it warms up.

The Jenny Cross Front Tunic is on sale through January 20th!

Halla Patterns Autumn Sweater for Women

Halla Patterns has a new pattern out and like all Halla Patterns, it has more options than you will ever need.  The Autumn Sweater is a hoodie, a top, a cardigan, and more! Take a look at some of the options.

I made the cocoon cardigan option.

I used a fun vintage sewing machine double brushed poly from So Sew English for my first Autumn Sweater.

I removed 2" from the length of the body for my 5' height. When removing length from this pattern (or adding) remember to remove (or add) the same amount of length to the front bands.

The cocoon cardigan option to the Autumn Sweater is perfect for layering. The dolman sleeves ensure there is enough ease under the arms to allow for layering and you also don't get bulk at your shoulder seams.

I also graded the pattern to be one size larger in my hips. I cut the bottom of the back piece to be one size larger. If you do this, be sure to cut the back band for the size that the hemline is.

Of course I couldn't just make one Autumn Sweater. I've been wanting to make a grey sweater knit cardigan as I feel like it will get a lot of wear.

I have had this grey sweater knit in my stash for awhile. I got it from Sincerely Rylee in a sweater knit box.

The sweater knit was very loose weave and seemed to grow more and more as I sewed it. You can definitely tell from my sleeve cuffs. A wash & dry helped it shrink back up - but it's looser than intended. It is advisable to size down one size when using a loose weave sweater knit like this.

This pattern calls for knit fabrics with at least 50% stretch. I'd recommend using fabrics with some drape to prevent a boxy look. Rib knit works great for the bands.

The Autumn Sweater has several sleeve options. For the long sleeves there is a fitted and a relaxed option. In addition, a 3/4 length kimono style sleeve is also included.

Since testing, I've made two more Autumn Sweaters in the cocoon cardigan version, with one more cut out and ready to sew. I'll be sharing photos of these later this month. I'm sure I'll be trying all the other options very soon.

The Autumn Sweater is on sale through November 7th. In addition, get 20% off all pdf patterns (including the Autumn Sweater) with the code AUTUMN through November 7th.

Ellie & Mac Women's Be Adventurous

It's time for Wacky Wednesday at Ellie & Mac! Today the Women's Be Adventurous is on sale for one dollar through Midnight on Wednesday, October 17th!

The Women's Be Adventurous is a great pattern for the fall.

The Women's Be Adventurous pattern has peplum, tunic, and dress options. I made the peplum version. I removed 2" out of the length for my 5' height.

There are two sleeve options, hemmed (as I made) and with a flounce at the end.

There are two neckline options - banded or a cowl. I made the cowl version as I love cowls - especially if they are drapey.

The Women's Be Adventurous cowl is nice and big and has the drape I love.

The Women's Be Adventurous pattern worked perfectly in this printed sweater knit from Sincerely Rylee.

I love the fit of the Women's Be Adventurous! I'll definitely be making a few more for this Fall & Winter.

Ellie & Mac Fireside Top

It's Wacky Wednesday at Ellie & Mac! That means there are 6 fabulous patterns on sale for only $1!

This week include the Fireside Top and the Cold Shoulder Top. You can read my blog on the Cold Shoulder Top HERE!

This week, I want to show you the Fireside Top that I made.

What makes the Fireside Top stand out from other tops, is the low back with a shoulder strap. The Fireside Top is perfect for layering over a bralette or tank, or bare your back. The back scoop ends just above my bra. I used a really slinky sweater knit that also gew as I sewed it. If you use a more stable knit, the scoop will be higher. I also goofed and cut my back piece on the fold - so my back piece is wider than intended.

The Fireside Top is a relaxed dolman sleeve top. The front has a v-neck that is very flattering.

I love that the Fireside Top has side vents. You could make the Fireside Top without them, but I think they add a bit of style and it's an element you see frequently in ready to wear fashion. Side vents are one of those details that might take a bit of extra time, but they are worth it.

I really love the relaxed fit. It makes the Fireside Top perfect to wear with skinny jeans or leggings.

I did not remove length from the Fireside Top for my 5' height. If you like this length, you might want to add an inch or two depending on your height. I love slouchy tops like this to cover my behind so I can lounge in them with leggings.

One adjustment I made to the Fireside Top, was to slim the sleeves down. I think I might have made these sleeves more snug than I intended, but I'm liking them fitted. I found the pattern piece for the sleeves to give a finished width of 11" which was very loose and wide on my arms. I need to figure out the right width for me before I make another Fireside Top.

The Fireside Top and 5 other patterns are on sale for one dollar through midnight on October 3, 2018. Find all the Wacky Wednesday deals HERE! In addition, the entire sop is on sale for 40% off! Prices are already marked down.

Ellie and Mac Cold Shoulder Top

Ellie and Mac has a new release that is perfect for transitioning into fall - the Women's Cold Shoulder pattern. It has multiple sleeve lengths and a side cinched tunic version. I made the banded top version with 3/4 length sleeves.

I made this Women's Cold Shoulder top with a ribbed sweater knit. Green is my favorite color and this green matched one of my favorite bralettes perfectly.

I did not remove length from the top for my short height. I love the slouchy and comfortable fit of the Women's Cold Shoulder top.

I'm wearing my Women's Cold Shoulder top with my Palazzo Pants in these photos, but think as the weather cools down, I'll pair it with some skinny jeans and boots.

The cold shoulder detail is really cute, but can make it hard to hide bra straps. I think it looks super cute with the bralette though. Hopefully I'm not too old to pull off this look.

Here's a view of the back. The neckline and sleeves are finished with a binding. This can be a little tricky to get perfect. You will definitely want to pay attention to how much stretch and recovery your fabric has when sewing and cutting the binding.

I redid my sleeves twice as this sweater knit was really stretchy and did not have good recovery. But in the end, I think it came out great!

I made this version early in testing. I used cotton lycra for this one. I also removed 2.5" from the length for my height. If you look close, you can see that my bra straps peek out a little bit.

Using cotton lycra is a lot easier than sweater knit for this pattern.

The pattern is only $3.85 through Sunday. In addition all patterns are 40% off  - no code needed, prices are marked on the website.
