Dia de Los Muertos Quilts for a Good Cause

Since early this year I wanted to make a Dia de Los Muertos quilt to auction off for Hispanic Heritage Month. I ended up making two! Both are up for auction on eBay.

Both quilts are made using the scraps from the quilt I made last year. These quilts are intended to be a wall hanging that can be used as an ofrenda.

Both were quilted on my longarm using a sugar skull pantograph. This one was quilted with green thread and has a serape printed binding.

The back of this one features a fabric from Jo-ann's that was part of their Hispanic Heritage collection last year. This fabric shows musical instruments with Calavera style designs on them.

The second quilt is very similar to the first. The difference between the two is the orientation of the blocks. The first one has a vertical orientation and the second has a horizontal orientation.

Both are quilted using the sugar skull pantograph. This one was quilted in black thread and has a black binding.

The back of this one features a fabric with a floral design that made me think of Mexico.

Each quilt will come with 9 quilted photo holders. These allow you to insert the photos or mementos of your dearly departed loved ones and attach them to the quilt with safety pins.

The photo holders are made to hold photos that are 4 x 6 inches.

All proceeds from the auction will be donated to One Common Thread. This organization is based  in San Antonio, Texas and serves women in Central America. From their profile - "At One Common Thread, we are about empowering women in Central America, specifically Honduras. We give women the opportunity to work and earn an income and other needed items. Here at One Common Thread we believe in the importance of developing self worth by working to improve our living conditions. When there is sacrifice and work our women feel better about themselves, and what they have accomplished and earned."

Bidding ends Sunday around 1:30p.m. Please see individual listings for details.
