Sew Big Fabrics Fruit Splash!

The Sew Big Fabrics Fruit Splash Round is full of fun fruit themed prints. All prints are available on a variety of bases. My favorite base is the Bamboo Lycra. When I saw the Monochrome Pineapple Purple Gradient print, I knew I needed to make a maxi dress with it.

I may not wear many dresses, but I do love a maxi dress. They are so comfortable to wear and they keep my legs hidden.

I used the leaf bodice and full back from the George + Ginger Mix It Up Dress for my maxi dress. I love bamboo lycra, but bamboo does not have the best recovery so I lined my bodice with athletic brushed poly. This will help prevent the bodice from sagging as I wear it over the course of the day. 

I then just added a gathered skirt to it that was the appropriate length for my height.

This Pineapple Print is so fun and tropical. It makes me want to go on a beach vacation ASAP. The Bamboo fabric will help keep me cool no matter how hot & humid it is. Perfect for the beach.

Here's a closer look at the Pineapple print. The pineapples are done in a geometric design and look so cool on top of the purple gradient.

 I really love the leaf bodice, but do find that it is a little low cut on me.

George + Ginger Jawbreaker Peplum & Dress

I have been so busy this month. Here it is almost over and I'm just now getting around to blogging about the Pattern of the Month at George + Ginger. The pattern this month is the Jawbreaker Dress - which happens to have a peplum length.

I have been eyeing the Jawbreaker ever since it released and purchased it during a sale. I finally made it about 2 weeks ago.

What I really love about the Jawbreaker is the boatneck with pleats. You can also make it without the pleats.

As much as I love the look of the pleats, I find that being made with a stretch cotton lycra means they don't exactly want to stay laying flat. I am tempted to make another and to sew my pleats down.

I made the peplum skirt which is a full circle skirt that also has mini and dress lengths. The pattern also include the option for a fitted skirt.

I used the 3/4 length sleeves. The pattern also includes sleeveless, short sleeves, and long sleeves.

For my 5' height, I removed 1.5' from the length of the bodice.

As I am gearing up to only wear bottoms I have made, I also made a new pair of Greenstyle Creations Chelsea Pants. It's hard to see in these photos, but my pants are a black ponte de roma with tiny silver polka dots.

These pants are so comfortable. I love the flared leg.

They even have pockets!

George + Ginger Mix It Up Dress

Kristi at George + Ginger is always coming up with designs that are so different and fun. They often make me step out of my comfort zone, and I really need that push sometimes. The Mix It Up Dress is no different. The options are-

Front Bodice--yoke, horseshoe, leaf, keyhole and asymmetric

Back Bodice--yoke, square, diamond, keyhole and full closure

Sleeves--sleeveless, cap, short, elbow, 3/4 and long

Skirts--full circle (peplum, mini, dress), half circle (peplum, mini, dress), handkerchief (peplum, mini, dress), hi-lo tunic (short and long) AND fitted skirt to add to peplum, hi-lo or stand alone

I was assigned the asymmetrical front bodice with a full back, short sleeves, and the handkerchief peplum.

I really love how this combination looks. I love peplums and I have never done an asymmetrical front neckline before.

 I used a cotton lycra from Made Whimsy. This is the Spiced Splatter which is currently at preorder.

 This print has a beautiful texture and the weight is perfect for the Mix It Up Dress.

I didn't make just one Mix It Up Dress. Here is the first one I made. This one has the same options and was also made in a cotton lycra.

I've had this fabric so long, that I'm not sure where I bought it.
The print is a bunch of water color-esque dots in a million colors.

For my 5' height I removed 1.5" from the length of the bodice. I really love the length of the peplum.

 These were not the only Mix It Up Dress that I made, but all I will share with you - for now. Here's a look at a few other combinations possible with this pattern.

Zenith & Quasar Fabric Technology Round

I always look forward to the technology round every year at Zenith & Quasar. It's usually my opportunity to grab some computer science themed prints to make my son fun pajamas or underwear. I still need to ask him which print is his favorite. My favorite is the Glitch Screen.

I love the mix of colors and patterns. I takes me back to the old days of playing pong on an Atari and having to wiggle all the connections to get the game to show back up on the TV screen. Oh the good old days of signal loss. My tank is the free tank from Life Sew Savory. I did modify this one a tad to make it more relaxed. I'm wearing a pair of Greensyle Chelsea Pants in these first few photos.

As I looked over my stash of Zenith & Quasar fabrics, the yellow mesh grabbed my attention. I loved how it pulled out the yellow and green tones from the print. This mesh is cool to the touch and not super see through. It has holes, but the holes are not really holes, the fabric is just really thin inside the holes. I'm wearing a navy blue bra with the tank I made (as evidenced by my strap showing) and you cannot see the thick back band easily through my tank.

I didn't have a whole lot of this Glitch Screen print to play with. I had about 24" by wof (58"). It's a good thing I am short because I was able to get some stride inserts out of it and added the cross cuff to give them a little more length.

This was my first time making the cross cuff. I had to modify the piece slightly since I did not cut the legs at the cut line for the cross cuffs, I cut mine longer and the opening was narrower. I cut the cross cuff to match the width of the neon red supplex. I then eyeballed the length of the criss cross straps. I only did two sets of two instead of the three sets of two in the pattern.

I really love how the strides make my butt look. I really love how opaque the budget supplex is. I'm wearing underwear with black stripes and you can't see them. You can make out the outline, but I don't care.

The strides have become my favorite athletic tights. They are so comfortable and go together fairly quickly. Maybe not as quick as plain leggings, but the extra effort give such a cool pair of leggings that fit amazing.

I'm undecided if I actually like my tank with my strides. I was really wishing I had bought some of the neon green hybrid athletic knit. It would have looked awesome as strides.

5 out of 4 Nora Bolero

I really love Bolero style cardigans. I was excited when 5 out of 4 had a tester call for the Nora Bolero. I don't think I could have too many cardigans in my closet.

The Nora Bolero has two different options. There is lined (which can be made reversible) and unlined which is finished with a band. I made the unlined version.

This is the first one I made in testing. The pattern was changed very slightly from this version. I made this Nora Bolero with Purple Cactus Flower Tactel from Zenith & Quasar.

 Last year I made these Designer Stitch Shakti Pants in the Purple Cactus Flower Tactel and made several Sinclair Patterns Shelby Tunics that matched. Ever since I have wanted to make a matching bolero to wear over the Shelby Tunics since they are sleeveless to make them more work appropriate.

 When the final version of the Nora Bolero was released to the testers, I decided to use a bright blue rayon french terry that I bought at the Dallas Fabric District. It was only a yard, but that was all I needed for the Nora Bolero.

I paired this Nora Bolero with a Halla Patterns Agnes (this one is sleeveless).

I'm wearing the Style Arc Barb's Stretch Pants made with Pink stretch Twill from Simply by Ti.

I wore my Nora Bolero with this top to work recently and got many compliments. It's very comfortable on, but I do find that it slides down my shoulders a bit over the course of the day.

The Nora Bolero goes together really quick. I do think I will try a rib knit for the bands when I make it again. I'm also thinking of making the lined version with elbow length sleeves. Greenstyle Creations Aspen Pants

Me Made May is coming up and this year I pledged to only wear me made bottoms. That means, I'll be spending some time this month making myself some more pants. My wardrobe has been severely lacking in me made bottoms for awhile and I have been slowly working to fix that. I printed out the Greenstyle Creations Aspen Pants awhile back. I've lost weight since I printed out the pattern and probably should have printed out a smaller size, but went ahead with these as I felt I needed to make a pair to check fit anyways.

 I made these Aspen Pants with a blue Tactel from Zenith & Quasar Fabric.

The Aspen Pants are one of the older patterns from Greenstyle Creations and don't have some of the features of the newer patterns - like layers.

I love the flared leg of the Aspen Pants. Even though they do take quite a bit of fabric. I made the 46" hip (I should have made the 44") and cut at the short length on the pattern, then I ended taking 1" off of that. These took just over 2 yards of fabric. One of the great things about the Aspen Pants is that they can be made with a woven if you size up one size. So, I might take this 46" pattern and try it on a stretch woven as I'm not sure there is enough ease for a non-stretch woven, but could see it working well on a stretch woven.

 My top I paired them with is the Halla Patterns Agnes. This is a free pattern and it's one of my favorites. I made this Agnes last year and it ended up in my UFO pile. All it needed was to be hemmed. Since I thought it would look super cute with my Aspen Pants, I hemmed it.
