Zenith & Quasar Fabric Technology Round

I always look forward to the technology round every year at Zenith & Quasar. It's usually my opportunity to grab some computer science themed prints to make my son fun pajamas or underwear. I still need to ask him which print is his favorite. My favorite is the Glitch Screen.

I love the mix of colors and patterns. I takes me back to the old days of playing pong on an Atari and having to wiggle all the connections to get the game to show back up on the TV screen. Oh the good old days of signal loss. My tank is the free tank from Life Sew Savory. I did modify this one a tad to make it more relaxed. I'm wearing a pair of Greensyle Chelsea Pants in these first few photos.

As I looked over my stash of Zenith & Quasar fabrics, the yellow mesh grabbed my attention. I loved how it pulled out the yellow and green tones from the print. This mesh is cool to the touch and not super see through. It has holes, but the holes are not really holes, the fabric is just really thin inside the holes. I'm wearing a navy blue bra with the tank I made (as evidenced by my strap showing) and you cannot see the thick back band easily through my tank.

I didn't have a whole lot of this Glitch Screen print to play with. I had about 24" by wof (58"). It's a good thing I am short because I was able to get some stride inserts out of it and added the cross cuff to give them a little more length.

This was my first time making the cross cuff. I had to modify the piece slightly since I did not cut the legs at the cut line for the cross cuffs, I cut mine longer and the opening was narrower. I cut the cross cuff to match the width of the neon red supplex. I then eyeballed the length of the criss cross straps. I only did two sets of two instead of the three sets of two in the pattern.

I really love how the strides make my butt look. I really love how opaque the budget supplex is. I'm wearing underwear with black stripes and you can't see them. You can make out the outline, but I don't care.

The strides have become my favorite athletic tights. They are so comfortable and go together fairly quickly. Maybe not as quick as plain leggings, but the extra effort give such a cool pair of leggings that fit amazing.

I'm undecided if I actually like my tank with my strides. I was really wishing I had bought some of the neon green hybrid athletic knit. It would have looked awesome as strides.

Here's a look at the other prints in the Technology Round.

Ellie & Mac Breezy Women's Dress

I love Wacky Wednesday at Ellie & Mac. This week I'm showing off the Breezy Women's Dress pattern. This was my first time sewing this pattern and I see more in my future.

The Breezy Woman's Dress Pattern includes peplum, mini, mid thigh, and dress length (petite, regular, and tall cut lines).

I really love the fitted bodice and the shape of the skirt on the Breezy Dress. The Breezy Dress can be made sleeveless, or with short, 3/4, or long sleeves. I opted for long sleeves and might cut them to short sleeves when spring comes around.

I made the peplum version of the Breezy Dress and can't wait to try the mini and mid thigh lengths.

I used a double brushed poly that I bought from Wherehouse Fabrics.

I'm normally not a fan of florals, but this large scale floral got my attention. What's funny is I unintentionally almost pattern matched the flower at the bottom of the bodice with the bottom of a flower on the top of the skirt.

I also love that the peplum length covers my behind well.

The Breezy Women's Dress is on sale through January 2nd for only $1! There are 5 other patterns that are also on sale. See all the Wacky Wednesday sale patterns HERE!

Another pattern included in the Wacky Wednesday sale that I love is the Women's Be Confident Tunic & Dress. Below are two that I made.

Zenith & Quasar Leggings!

You've seen my countless posts about fabric from Zenith & Quasar, but did you know they also offer leggings in some of the past popular prints?

No automatic alt text available.

I have a pair in the Science Rules print. I've had these for awhile now and this print is no longer in stock. I happen to be wearing mine today and thought I'd do a quick blog post because the leggings are currently on SALE! They are $35 with free shipping!

The fit on these is great. They are made with a contoured waistband that has elastic in the top seam. This ensures that they will stay in place all day long.

Here's a view of the front waistband.

The leggings are made with the Athletic Brushed Poly that prints are sold on. It's a great weight, breathable, and moisture wicking. I love to wear these in the hot Texas summer with sleeveless flowy tunics - like here. Sorry - no photos of my face today as it was very early this morning when I took photos and I had not bothered with my hair. It will be 100 today and I'll be jumping in the pool before too long. So - the point of the photo below is to show you how incredibly stretchy this fabric is!

The rise on the leggings comes to my natural waist. But I'm short, so if you are a normal height person, they will likely be more of a mid rise on you. Here's a view of my backside to show you the great coverage.

Seriously, these are so comfortable and with the sale price - they are a bargain! If you can make leggings from a yard of fabric - like my short self, then the cost to buy a yard of a print is $24 plus $5 for shipping. That's $29 just to get the fabric. For $6 more you can buy a pair already made! PLease note in these photos that I have extra fabric pooling at my ankles - I'm short - this may not happen to you.

Sizing! Here is the size chart. When Lilly received samples of the leggins, they sent a small and a medium. My measurements are waist 33, hips 44. I tried the mediums and they fit me like the regular LuLaRoe leggings. Meaning that while they did "fit" I felt like a little bit more room would be nicer. So I went up a size to the Large and love how these fit. They give me a little more room, but not so much that I felt I was wearing LuLaRoe Tall & Curvy leggings.

So - now you might be wondering what prints are available...

Nebulous!

Leggings are normally $50! They are only $35 for a limited time. They also ship for free! Buy them HERE!

Love Notions Margot Peplum Top

Love Notions has release another great pattern. The Margot Peplum top has so many options. You can have a solid bodice or pieced with princess seams. There are also 3 skirt options, gathered, swing, and pleated. Not to mention you can practically make any sleeve length.

I made 3 Margot peplums this week. My first was made in a liverpool remnant as my muslin. The skirt on it fell at my widest point and was not flattering. I don't have good photos of it, but I'll definitely be wearing it after I take a little length off of it or add a lace trim to it.

After my muslin, I decided to add 3 inches to the length. I figured I could then shorten it where I wanted it. But after I made it and put it on, I really loved the longer length. It made it more of a tunic length and I thought it would be perfect with leggings.

I then made my next in double brushed poly and brushed nylon. The double brushed poly was a strike off from So Cheeky Fabrics. They are offering prints on brushed poly for the first time. The pre-order price is $18/yard and closes on November 16th.

This is the colorful honeycomb print. I love how rich and vibrant the print is. The coloring has a grunge effect so the colors are splotchy in the design. I think this makes for an interesting print.

I paired it with brushed nylon from Zenith & Quasar. I love this fabric. It's so soft and silky feeling. It has great stretch and drapes so good.

And I made my 3rd Margot in stretch velvet from Zenith & Quasar in my favorite color - green.

I'm going to wear this with some skinny jeans and boots to the Boys & Girls Club benefit dinner & auction. It's a great combination of dressy yet casual.

This velvet is so lovely and comes in 10 colors. It has great 4-way stretch. I've already made leggings and a raglan with lace sleeves with it. It will be $12/yard at retail and will be posted on Friday, November 11th at noon Eastern. Purchase at www.zenithandquasar.com

MLM Fabric - DIY Resources

I hope you have enjoyed my Sew it Yourself Posts. Below are links to each one I have done - so far.

Sew it Yourself MLM - My Compilation of patterns for most MLM items for ladies

Now that you know how to make your own items, I'll let you know where to find their fabric and similar fabrics.

The best and most reliable place to find the real deal - fabric is LDG Textiles. Check out their Facebook group and join to take advantage of flash stockings and sales.

You can also find it on eBay and Etsy from time to time. But LDG always has a good inventory.

Several custom knit groups are beginning to offer brushed poly similar to what MLM company makes their leggings out of.  The fabric content for MLM company leggings is 92% Polyester and 8% Spandex. I'll list the fiber content that each group runs, if available.

Zenith and Quasar has offered brushed poly the longest and I think their's is the best. They carry a brushed poly lycra in heathered colors to be used for active wear. It is so soft and has a nice brushed finish. I have made leggings, pajamas, and my son underwear with it. It's wonderful and doesn't pill.

Lilly Himrod began printing custom prints on this brushed poly base in January of 2016, but had offered it in heathered colors for a year prior. This brushed poly is brushed on both sides. The printing process does flatten the fibers and make the fabric feel slightly slick initially, but after a few wash & dry cycles, it plumps up nicely.

The brushed poly base from Zenith & Quasar is 89% Polyester and 11% Spandex. The compositions are extremely close. The stretch is better on the Zenith & Quasar fabric, it is 100%.

Here is a pair of leggings I made with Zenith and Quasar brushed poly.

Zenith & Quasar also offers prints on a "plush" brushed poly. This is brushed only on one side, but the brushed finish is more plush and extremely similar to MLM company legging fabric. The fiber content is 90% polyester and 10% spandex. It also has amazing stretch and recovery. Here are photos of leggings I have made with the "plush" brushed poly from Zenith & Quasar.

I have also bought brushed poly from Wanderlust. Their brushed poly is 95% polyester and 5% spandex. It is more plush - almost velvety in feel. The fibers are very dense and thick. It has 50% stretch and recovery is good.  Here is a pair of leggings I made with the Wanderlust brushed poly. (Photo coming soon - I can't find it!)

A few more custom knit groups are currently offering brushed poly. They all just started, so I have not had a chance to try them out for myself. But below is the information that I have.

Starfluffle - First round of prints at preorder now (10/16). 96% polyester and 4% spandex.

Bitty Bee - First round of prints at preorder now (10/16). 95% polyester and 5% spandex.

So Cheeky - First round of prints at preorder now (10/16). 95% polyester and 5% spandex.

Wonderground Fabrics - First round of prints at preorder noew (10/23). 95% polyester and 5% spandex.

Riki Prints - First round now open (11/3).

Smoogie - First round now open (11/3). 93% polyester and 7% spandex.

Snowy Owl Customs - Just announced, no details yet.

There are also 2 groups that carry some heathered colors of brushed poly - these are soft, but more like an activewear knit.

Made Whimsy - I have bought their brushed poly and made the leggings in the photo below with it.

Sahara Fabrics - offers the same brushed poly heathered colors as Made Whimsy.

There are also several discount reseller with brushed poly - but be warned the quality is not comparable to the custom knit groups. But these groups also sell poly lycra blends - such as liverpool, jersey, and scuba - which are often used by MLM company to make their tops and dresses.

So Sew English - I have purchased from this company. The brushed poly was too thin for my liking for leggings, but it does make nice tops. Also - they current shipping times are pretty long - so don't order if you are in a hurry.

Pretty Posh Prints - I have purchased from this group too. And again, the brushed poly is too thin for my liking for leggings, but it will be great for a dress or top in the future.

Sincerely Rylee - I have purchased from here, but not brushed poly. Great customer service and pretty fast shipping.

Below are a few others, but I have not personally purchased from them.

Sew it Yourself EYMM Piko Top

I have a super easy Hack for you today.

The Piko Top from Everything Your Mama Made. It has several variations, but the one in the middle is an exact match to a very popular MLM clothing designer top.

Kymy Johnson is the designer and owner of Everything Your Mama Made. She's also a MLM fan and helped me with this blog. Thanks Kymy!

The sizing for the Piko Top mirrors the sizing of the MLM company dolman tunic pretty close. Kymy measured her XS dolman tunic and it's measurements were very close to the Piko. I tried an Erma on at a party and I was a small in the dolman tunic, I made the Small Piko Top and it was a perfect fit. I checked with a few friends and the medium was also the same.

For this post, I even made my top with the MLM who shall not be named fabric. I got this one from a friend. You can find their fabric or similar fabric at a few places. I'll do a post in the future with those resources. You can find that post HERE.

To make your own Erma - print out the High-Lo version of the Piko Top and the 3/4 length sleeves.

The MLM dolman tunic is about 3 inches longer than the Piko Top. Cut the Piko Top top on the "length/shorten line" and add a piece of paper to add length. I added 4" to mine so I could do a 1" hem. If you do a 1/2" hem, lengthen by 3.5".

 It will look like this-

Cut your pieces out and follow the pattern instructions. They are really easy.

Here is my finished top.

I also made my leggings. The Everything Your Mama Made Get Moving Leggings are perfect for making your own MLM inspired leggings. The pattern has an athletic cut with slim thighs (to give compression) and as a mid rise that fits great. The fabric for the leggings is from Fawnette Fabrics.
